Sri Lanka all-inclusive holidays are mainly beach stays at resort hotels on the west and south-west coasts, with a smaller number on the east coast. They suit travellers who want a fixed budget and several days by the pool. Most visitors get better value by touring inland on half board, then finishing with a few all-inclusive nights at the beach.

When does all-inclusive make sense?

It suits

Families who want fixed costs, travellers who plan to stay at the hotel most days, and a relaxing end to a touring holiday.

It suits less

Touring days, when you eat lunch on the road. Also beach towns with good local restaurants, such as Galle, Mirissa or Unawatuna.

Match the coast to your month

The Sri Lanka Tourism climate guide names December to February as peak season on the south-west coast, and May to September as the best time for the dry zone, including Trincomalee and Arugam Bay. Our beach holiday guide explains the choice.

Sea safetyThe UK government’s safety advice says many beaches have dangerous surf or rip tides at certain times of year. Ask the hotel before swimming in the sea.

A combined plan

A common structure is five or six nights touring on half board, then four or five all-inclusive nights at the beach. The touring part follows the Cultural Triangle and Kandy. Read about package inclusions before you compare quotes.

All-inclusive questions

Does Sri Lanka have all-inclusive resorts?

Yes, mainly on the west and south-west coasts between Negombo and Bentota, with some on the east coast. Inclusions vary widely, so check which drinks, restaurants and activities are covered before booking.

Is all-inclusive worth it in Sri Lanka?

It is worth it for beach days spent at the hotel, especially with children. For touring days and beach towns with good local restaurants, half board usually gives better value and more variety.

Which month is best for an all-inclusive beach holiday in Sri Lanka?

December to March suits the west and south-west coasts. From May to September, choose the east coast instead, as the south-west is in its wetter monsoon season.
