A Sri Lanka land only package covers everything after you land: airport pickup, a private vehicle and chauffeur guide, hotels, agreed meals and planned activities. You book your international flights separately. It suits travellers using airline points, flexible fares or a multi-country trip. The trade-off is that flights and ground arrangements sit under different terms.

For UK travellers, ATOL is financial protection for package trips that include a flight. A flight-only booking with an e-ticket is not ATOL protected. Travellers from other countries should check their own consumer rules.

What a land-only quote should include

Ask for each line to be itemised. Our guide to Sri Lanka package inclusions lists the details to check.

  • Airport transfers: pickup and drop-off matched to your flight numbers, including late-night arrivals.
  • Vehicle and chauffeur guide: vehicle type, luggage space, driver accommodation, fuel and tolls.
  • Hotels: named hotels, room types and meal plans for every night.
  • Activities: which entrance tickets and safari jeeps are included and which are paid locally.

Our package cost guide explains what moves the price up or down.

How to fit the ground plan to your flights

Late arrival

Sleep near the airport on the first night. A long drive straight after a night flight is tiring and less safe.

Early departure

Spend the last night in Negombo or near the airport rather than driving from the hills before dawn.

Flight changes

Tell the operator as soon as your flight changes, so the pickup and first hotel can move too.

Entry

Apply for your ETA on the official ETA website before you fly. Free tourist ETAs currently apply to 40 nationalities.

Local planning noteSend your flight numbers rather than only the times. Your chauffeur guide can then follow the actual arrival on the day.

Send us your flight details for a land-only quote

Share your arrival and departure flights, party size and hotel level. Our tailor-made team can plan the ground arrangements around them, with a private chauffeur guide throughout.

Land-only package questions

What does land only mean for a Sri Lanka holiday?

Land only means the package covers everything in Sri Lanka, such as transfers, a private vehicle, hotels, meals and activities, but not your international flights. You book flights yourself and share the details with the operator.

Is a land only package ATOL protected?

Not as a flight package. ATOL protects package trips that include a flight and are sold by an ATOL holder. A flight-only booking with an e-ticket is not ATOL protected, so buy travel insurance when you book.

Is a land only package cheaper?

It can be, especially if you use airline points or find a good fare yourself. The ground cost is the same either way. The saving comes from flight choice, not from the hotels or vehicle.
