Most Sri Lanka holiday package inclusions cover hotels with a stated meal plan, a private vehicle with a chauffeur guide, fuel, tolls and airport transfers. Entrance tickets, safari jeeps, train tickets, lunches, tips and travel insurance are often excluded. The only reliable answer is the itemised list in your own quote.

What is usually included in a Sri Lanka holiday package?

A private Sri Lanka package is built from a few core parts. Check each one is written into the quote, not assumed.

ItemUsually included?What to confirm
HotelsYesHotel names, room type and number of nights at each
Meal planYes, as statedBB, HB or FB for every hotel, not just the first
Vehicle and chauffeur guideYes on private toursVehicle type, air conditioning and luggage space
Fuel, tolls and parkingUsuallyWhether any distance limit applies
Driver’s meals and roomsUsuallyThat you will not be charged separately at hotels
Airport transfersUsuallyTimes match your flights, including late arrivals

Meal plans use hotel shorthand. BB is bed and breakfast, HB adds dinner, and FB adds lunch and dinner. Half board suits most touring days, because lunch is usually taken on the road.

What is often excluded?

Exclusions are where two similar-looking quotes differ most. These items are commonly left out of the headline price:

  • Site entrance tickets for places such as Sigiriya, Dambulla, Polonnaruwa and the Temple of the Tooth.
  • Safari jeeps and park tickets for Yala, Udawalawe, Minneriya or Wilpattu.
  • Train tickets for the hill-country railway, which depend on seat availability.
  • Lunches, drinks and tips for guides, jeep drivers and hotel staff.
  • International flights, your ETA and travel insurance.

Grey areas to clarify before you pay

“Or similar” hotels

Ask which hotel is the first choice and what happens if it is full. A swap should be the same standard, agreed with you before travel.

Guiding at sites

A chauffeur guide drives and explains along the way. Some sites have separate local guides, so ask whether those are included.

Early check-in

Overnight flights often land before hotel check-in time. Ask whether an extra night or early check-in is in the price.

Changes on the road

Ask how a route change is priced, for example adding a day trip or swapping a beach.

Checked 19 October 2026The UK government’s Sri Lanka travel advice reports a weekly fuel quota for all vehicles, with special arrangements announced for tour operators and hotels. Ask your operator how this affects your route.

Package inclusion questions

Are entrance fees included in Sri Lanka tour packages?

Sometimes, but not always. Many quotes exclude tickets for sites such as Sigiriya, Dambulla and Polonnaruwa because travellers choose different sites. Check your quote line by line, and ask for an estimate of excluded tickets so you can compare totals fairly.

Do I pay for my driver’s meals and accommodation?

On most private packages, the driver’s meals and accommodation are built into the price. Confirm this in writing, because a few quotes leave it out. You should not be asked to pay hotels separately for your driver’s room.

What does half board mean in a Sri Lanka package?

Half board, often written HB, means breakfast and dinner at the hotel. Bed and breakfast, or BB, covers breakfast only. Full board, or FB, adds lunch. Half board suits touring days because you usually eat lunch on the road.

Is travel insurance included in a Sri Lanka holiday package?

Usually not. You normally arrange your own policy. The UK government advises that insurance should cover your itinerary, planned activities and expenses in an emergency, so check that safaris, hiking or water sports are covered.
